Who is the real you?
SPEAKER_00What if I told you that there's more to it? That there are benefits and resources from heaven that are available to help you in this life, and you've never heard about them. Are you curious? Well, join Gordon Merrill as he digs deeper into making heaven real in this life.
SPEAKER_01Welcome back to Making Heaven Real. We started the episode with asking you who is the real you? Can you give me three things that are neat unique to you to the real you? Some of those things may be things that people may not even know about you. Why is that? Remember the story about the two wolves? You are a divine spirit sent by God to have a human experience. So that means by default, one wolf is your spirit. The other wolf is your human side. The human wolf is your physical part that is here for the human experience. Your human side is made up of your thoughts, emotions, and actions, the things that you do with your human body. But the divine part, the spirit part is the real you. That's the authentic you. We're going to explore that more during this episode. But that is your spirit. That is the you that is unique. But is also a unique expression of spirit from heaven. That spirit's been sent here to learn and grow and mature from your human experience, which includes those thoughts, emotions, and actions we just talked about. But your spirit as sent from heaven is whole, it's complete, and it's perfect. Because it's from heaven. Divine, perfect, you say? Well, in a previous episode we already talked about that at pretty good length. And discussed the passage in scripture in Ecclesiastes where it says, When the body dies, the body returns to the dust of the ground that it came from, and the spirit returns to God who sent it. So what makes up our spirit portion of our person? Dr. Richard Ward has recently kind of changed the way psychology looks at handling certain situations with people, and he's come up with the internal, internal family system. From that, from years of research on his part, he's come up with what he calls the eight C's of our spirit side. Out of all of this, he has also come up with and said that there is a part of us that is our authentic self, our actual spirit self. And as he put it, that spirit is connected to something greater. Sounds like what we've been talking about for weeks. He says these eight characteristics are our self, spirit, divine energy. Dr. Ward was an atheist. After doing this study, obviously he believes a little differently. But according to him, our spirit side of things encompass these eight C's. I'm going to mention them slowly and give you time to just think about them for a few seconds before we move on to the next one. And think about how this applies to the real you. These eight C's are calm, curiosity, compassion, clarity, confidence, courage, creativity and connectedness? If you were to stop and think about what a loving spirit from heaven would encompass, do those eight Cs kind of explain that? You know, when you go back and look at it throughout the Bible and the scriptures from even ancient scriptures, there's a lot of places where God says the one and only command from Him for us is to love one another. Does that not define love? So if heaven sends a spirit into a human body to have a human experience, and the spirit, according to Dr. Richard Ward, encompasses these eight Cs that pretty much define love, then it's easy to understand why Scripture commands each of us to love. It's having us incorporate these eight C's into our life and into the world around us. Now the part that's kind of interesting about that is in Matthew the command goes a little further and says, love your neighbor as yourself The question is do you love yourself? And if not, why not? If God in heaven love you with a complete, total, unconditional love why can't you? Now, last week we talked a little bit about people's concerns with what's going on in the in the world around us and what's going on in the country, and how can we even attempt to make a difference? And we talked about several principles and several things that we could look at on doing that, but if you're looking at a world with all of its problems, your eight C's that make up your unique self, which also equals unconditional love, if you go through the day presenting and exuding that love, you're already making a difference. If we love ourselves as God loves us, that makes it easier for us to love our neighbor as ourselves. But by loving ourselves, we're being true to our unique self and your whole complete perfect spirit, then you use that love to love your neighbor. You know, just like we talked last week with Saint Francis of Assisi. Use that love, use those eight C's to start doing what is necessary right here, right now. Then start by doing what is possible, and then using that love to fuel you moving forward, you're suddenly able to do the impossible, just like we discussed. Now, this particular week is you know Palm Sunday and moving into Easter, and I've heard it compared that people going through grief and then loss of a loved one and an extreme loss are people who are kind of passing through a crucifixion experience of their own. In the way it is the death of something. May not be yours, but once that happens, you find yourself in a very dark place for a period of time. A place where you feel like you're really struggling to have people who will acknowledge you. Back to our grief toolkit here, who will even acknowledge you, be there for you, listen to you. But most of us have already found out that there is a form of a resurrection past that loss and that form of a crucifixion where life starts again, things move on again, but that makes it so much easier and so much better if we are allowing our spirit team to love us, to hold us, to guide us, and to help us move forward. You know, Easter is about resilience and renewal and the celebration of Jesus' resurrection. But it also points back to us that there's much more going on here than just the human experience. I read it somewhere and I can't find it to quote it, but it basically says that there are each of us here is in a never-ending journey of life. Think about that wording for a minute. Didn't say it ended at the end of this life. A never-ending journey of life. Kind of goes back to our discussion about the college. You're working on a degree program. You have a never-ending, seemingly, list of classes to take to complete that degree. So you, as this spirit from heaven, full of love, encompanying three C's, or I'm sorry, eight Cs, are here experiencing this life as a part of your never-ending journey of life. During this Easter season, don't forget, as we've discussed, that you're here to integrate your spirit and your human experience so that your spirit can learn, grow, and mature while also working towards completing your degree. If we tap into our spirit's true self and all of its heavenly resources, that allows you to focus on everything in light of those eight C's. Your genuine love for your true spiritual self. And then you can spread that love to others around you. And in that way, both you and those around you are benefiting by you making heaven real in their world.
